The Road to more points than however many I have at the time writing (1631)
Since getting into online chess during the pandemic, I've gained nearly 700 points on Lichess over the past year from about 900 to nearly 1700. Recently I've been getting bored with playing mostly the same three openings (Caro-Kann, Dutch and Nimzowistch-Larsen Attack) so I've been branching out into e4 openings as white. It has not been going well and I've lost nearly 100 points from my peak before clawing a fair amount of them back! Oops. I think its exposed to me how lacking I was in some ways. I've (relatively) thrived in more closed and strategic positions, but the more open and tactical shootouts I've often been ending up in with e4 have shown me to be far more lacking. So I thought I'd walk through some analysis of some of the games I've been playing to find areas of improvement, wins and losses!
Annoyingly embedding the lichess games with an iframe also destroys the css of the site... I don't know why, but I've left a link to the game in each article, as well as the PGN.
